Grammar Adaptation

چکیده

We employ transformations for the adaptation of grammars. Grammars need to be adapted in grammar development, grammar maintenance , grammar reengineering, and grammar recovery. Starting from a few fundamental transformation primitives and combinators, we derive an operator suite for grammar adaptation. Three groups of operators are identiied, namely operators for refactoring, construction and destruction. While refactoring is semantics-preserving in the narrow sense, transformations for construction and destruction require the consideration of relaxed notions of semantics preservation based on other grammar relations than equality of generated languages. The consideration of semantics and accompanying preservation properties is slightly complicated by the fact that we cannot insist on reduced grammars.

Ideational Grammatical Metaphor in Merry Shelly’s Frankenstein and its Cinematic Adaptation

Within Systemic Functional Linguistics, Grammatical Metaphor (GM) is a meaning-making resource lying at the experiential level that extends the meaning potential through cross-stratal re-mappings between the grammar and the semantics, boiling down, in one of its manifestations to expressing something that should have been a process (verb) in terms of a thing (noun). This study is an attempt at ...

Preventing deadlock during anisotropic 2D mesh adaptation in hp-adaptive FEM

The paper presents a grammar for anisotropic two-dimensional mesh adaptation in hp-adaptive Finite Element Method with rectangular elements. It occurs that a straightforward approach to modeling this process via grammar productions leads to potential deadlock in h-adaptation of the mesh. This fact is shown on a Petri net model of an exemplary adaptation. Therefore auxiliary productions are adde...

The symbiosis between perception and grammar in loanword phonology

This paper takes the view that loanword adaptation results from attempts to match the non-native percept of the L2 input, within the confines of the L1 grammar. Neither a purely perceptual nor a purely grammatical account can explain the facts. The L1 grammar includes constraints specific to mimicking foreign inputs. Where not all aspects can be replicated, the grammar prioritizes. In the Canto...

In this work we propose an approach for incorporating learning probabilistic context-sensitive grammar (LPCSG) in genetic programming (GP), employed for evolution and adaptation of locomotion gaits of a simulated snake-like robot (Snakebot). Our approach is derived from the original context-free grammar which usually expresses the syntax of genetic programs in canonical GP. Empirically obtained...

Cache-based Dynamic PCFG Adaptation using MAP Estimation

This paper presents a cache-based dynamic adaptation technique for lexicalized probabilistic context-free-grammar (LPCFG). Expected counts from machine-parsed sentences of in-domain data are stored in a cache, which are combined with prior counts from hand-annotated parses of outof-domain data using maximum a posteriori (MAP) estimation. This adaptation is unsupervised, and dynamic with an adap...
